I happened upon Kate and Jack the other day playing together. I asked them what they were doing. They replied, "We're playing 'Science Guy'". Hilarious. :)
Kate earned enough AR points to participate in the Principal's Walk at school a couple of weeks ago. I'm slow posting it on the blog -- but it was a fun, special day. I love the way the kids all line the halls and give high fives to the kids who have earned this special privilege. :)Todd decided to play Youth City League Basketball for the first time this year. He has a wonderful, kind, talented coach who is teaching him the ropes. His first game was Saturday afternoon. He did a great job! He's not very aggressive yet, but I think time and experience will improve that skill. He and his good friend, Chance, played on opposite teams so we had to cheer for both teams. The score ended in a TIE -- can you believe it? It's was pretty exciting. Chance's team scored the tying basket at the buzzer. They were both happy to share the win.

Slow Saturdays are the best, aren't they? This weekend we didn't have anything pressing to do in the morning, so while Brad and I pursued house projects the kids entertained themselves. Kate found Brad's old motorcycle helmets and she and Jack made the couch into a 'bike' and then a 'racecar' and then an 'airplain' and then a 'train' ... Four hours later, the worst we had to do was fluff a few pillows, fold a few blankets and put away the helmets. CHEAP ENTERTAINMENT!!
Hard to believe another year has passed and I'm a year older. I celebrated my b-day last Thursday and really had a fantastic day!!! So many dear friends and family remembered me and I received numerous phone calls, emails, cards and presents as well as a fun lunch with my great friend Amber, and a rip-roaring party with Brad and the kids. I maintain that I benefit from many peoples' New Year's resolutions to stay in touch with and remember people's birthdays. The 8th of January is usually early enough in the year that the goal is still in tact! :) At any rate, thank you to all of you for your care and love. I've decided that birthdays are great and a really good way to bolster your self-esteem. (As long as you don't acknowledge the ever climbing number attached with the day.)
Each of the kids has to practice blowing out candles for their next birthdays.
We enjoyed a fun visit from Grandma and Grandpa Rose last week. Dad had business in Burley, so Mom came along for the ride and spent the day with us! Dad was in and out and we thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The kids (of course) spent the requisite time showing off for G&G and showing them all the fun things they got for Christmas. Todd and Grandpa even spent some time shooting the BB gun while Kate and Jack watched from inside the safety of the kitchen window!
Just had to record for posterity some of the cute things the kids have said lately.
Jack: (while watching me apply makeup) "You color your face, Mom!"
Todd: (after solving a complex problem involving a project he and his Dad were working on) Man, kids these days are just getting smarter and smarter. (I wonder if he's heard that a few times in his life!)
Kate: (completely out of the blue during dinner) "Three things I don't like about being human: 1) I have to do lots of homework. 2) I have to go to school. 3) I have to get up early to go to school." (Apparently she really enjoyed Christmas break.)
Kate: (the next morning, while getting ready for school) "Three things I do like about being human: 1) I get toys for Christmas. 2) I get to play with toys. 3) ....... (long pause) I guess there are only 2."
